Integrated Municipal Information System (IMIS) and eBPS (Electronic Building Permit System) was officially launched in Mahalaxmi Municipality, Lalitpur amid a program organized on 27 March, 2022 at Hotel Himalaya, Kupondole. Mahalaxmi Municipality installed IMIS in municipality as first of its kind in Nepal.

IMIS is a tool that facilitates efficient and effective planning, management, and monitoring and evaluation of sanitation system and service delivery through data and information in one dash-board. This will contribute achieving goal of Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) at the municipalities.

An official launch of IMIS and eBPS in Mahalaxmi Municipality was done by Mr. Rameshor Shrestha, Mayor of Mahalaxmi Municipality, through clicking the button of IMIS and eBPS system login page.

The program was started with the objective sharing of the program by Mr. Roshan Gyawali, Chief Administrative Officer of Mahalaxmi Municipality. Mr. Sanjaya Adhikary, WASH Governance Expert highlighted about the first phase of the project. Likewise, Mr. Rajendra Shrestha, Program Director of ENPHO discussed about the idea and implementation of this project in municipality as a pilot project and about replication of the project in other municipalities.

During the same program, Mr. Shailesh Shrestha, GIS Expert of Innovative Solutions Pvt. Ltd., in his presentation, gave a brief description about IMIS and its features. Furthermore, he described about IMIS as one of the powerful systems developed to catalyze City Wide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) approach and to achieve SDG 6.2 outcomes. Mr. Suresh Thapa, Software Developer of Innovative Pvt. Ltd., highlighted about eBPS and its salient features.

During a special remarks, Chairperson of ENPHO, Mr. Rajiv Joshi thanked everyone engaged in the project and congratulate the team in installing IMIS in Mahalaxmi Municipality. Mr. Suman Prasad Sharma, WASH Policy Advisor during his special remarks said, “In present context, information management is key to work on plan and other decision making process. I believe that this IMIS and eBPS will definitely help work as integrated package for sanitation system policies and actions.”

The program was concluded with the remarks from Mr. Rameshor Shrestha, Mayor of Mahalaxmi Municipality. During his special remarks, he said, “Our municipality has always prioritize the management of waste within the municipality through different level of actions. I believe that the sanitation system within the municipality should be strong in order to provide support in environment and public health. For this, the installation of both eBPS and IMIS will be beneficial for us in tracking municipal sanitation data in one dash-board, which will further strengthen the planning and decision making of sanitation related policies and actions. We are thankful to the team for their contribution in installing the system at the municipality and also request everyone to further collaborate together for sustainability of the system.”

Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO) with the financial support of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and in collaboration with Mahalaxmi Municipality, Kathmandu Valley Water Supply and Management Board (KVWSMB), Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology (NBSM) and other relevant stakeholders has been implementing ‘Pilot Implementation of FSM Standard in Nepal-Mahalaxmi, Lalitpur as Pilot Municipality’ project for the management of basic on-site domestic wastewater services in Mahalaxmi Municipality, Lalitpur.
