What is CWIS?
Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) is a public service approach to planning and implementing urban sanitation systems to achieve outcomes summarized by Sustainable Development Goal 6: safe, equitable, and sustainable sanitation for everyone in an urban area, paying special attention to the needs of the poor, the marginalized, and women and girls.

What is FSM?
Faecal Sludge Management (FSM) is a crucial intervention required for safe excreta management and sustainable sanitation.

Nepal has been declared as Open Defecation Free (ODF) nation and is now moving ahead for the attainment of Total Sanitation. Amongst other issues of the sanitation, the proper management of fecal sludge, specifically in urban and peri-urban areas of Nepal is becoming a pressing issue to be resolved.

In collaboration with Citywide Inclusive Sanitation Alliance Nepal (CWISAN), Municipal Association of Nepal (MuAN) organized ‘National Citywide Inclusive Sanitation Conclave 2023’ on 21 December 2023 at Hotel Malla, Kathmandu with the objectives of learning and sharing sanitation initiatives in Municipalities, advocate for local governments to put greater emphasis on sanitation services and accelerate the efforts in achieving SDG 6.2. More than 200 participants attended the Conclave. ENPHO as one of the members of CWISAN collaborated with MuAN and CWISAN in organizing this Conclave.

National Water and Sanitation Training Centre (NWSSTC) and the Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO) jointly organized an eight-day training program on ‘Training of Trainers on Citywide Inclusive Sanitation approach’ (CWIS) on 1st- 8th December, 2023 at NWSSTC Hall Nagarkot. An 8-day training commenced with an opening session attended by notable figures including Kamal Raj Shrestha, the Director-General of the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management (DWSSM), Raju Mahat, Chief of NWSSTC, Bhawana Sharma, Executive Director of ENPHO, and Ahamed Alaudin, Program Manager ITN-BUET and shared their remarks.

A Half-day orientation on the eBPS field App for the implementation and monitoring of Standard Septic Tank Construction in Mahalaxmi Municipality using the Sani App has been conducted amongst the rooster designers and engineering from Mahalaxmi Municipality on 16 June 2023 at Entrance Cafe, Pulchowk.
