In collaboration with Citywide Inclusive Sanitation Alliance Nepal (CWISAN), Municipal Association of Nepal (MuAN) organized ‘National Citywide Inclusive Sanitation Conclave 2023’ on 21 December 2023 at Hotel Malla, Kathmandu with the objectives of learning and sharing sanitation initiatives in Municipalities, advocate for local governments to put greater emphasis on sanitation services and accelerate the efforts in achieving SDG 6.2. More than 200 participants attended the Conclave. ENPHO as one of the members of CWISAN collaborated with MuAN and CWISAN in organizing this Conclave.

National Water and Sanitation Training Centre (NWSSTC) and the Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO) jointly organized an eight-day training program on ‘Training of Trainers on Citywide Inclusive Sanitation approach’ (CWIS) on 1st- 8th December, 2023 at NWSSTC Hall Nagarkot. An 8-day training commenced with an opening session attended by notable figures including Kamal Raj Shrestha, the Director-General of the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management (DWSSM), Raju Mahat, Chief of NWSSTC, Bhawana Sharma, Executive Director of ENPHO, and Ahamed Alaudin, Program Manager ITN-BUET and shared their remarks.

A Half-day orientation on the eBPS field App for the implementation and monitoring of Standard Septic Tank Construction in Mahalaxmi Municipality using the Sani App has been conducted amongst the rooster designers and engineering from Mahalaxmi Municipality on 16 June 2023 at Entrance Cafe, Pulchowk. 

The workshop on “Implementation and Monitoring of Standard Septic Tank Construction in Mahalaxmi Municipality” was conducted on 9 to 10 June 2023 at Hotel Himalaya Horizon, Dhulikhel for all ward officials and staff members of Mahalaxmi Municipality. The program’s goal was to introduce municipal and ward officials to the Integral Municipal Information System (IMIS), which is being created to help with effective planning, decision-making, service delivery, and real-time monitoring of Mahalaxmi Municipality’s sanitation services.

Sanitation App was officially launched in Mahalaxmi Municipality, Lalitpur district amid a program organized on 26 May 2023 at The Malla Hotel, Lainchaur, Kathmandu. Sanitation App is a mobile based application for septic tank monitoring and inspection in Mahalaxmi Municipality. Mahalaxmi Municipality launched a sanitation app in municipality as first of its kind in Nepal.

As Municipality prepares for ensuring the construction of standard septic tanks, it is equally important to aware and build the capacity of relevant stakeholders on the standard septic tank design. In this context, ENPHO, in coordination with Mahalaxmi Municipality and the financial support of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, organized a one-day training for the consultant engineers and designers registered in Mahalaxmi Municipality, Lalitpur to train them on the standard septic tank design. The training was organized on 9 May 2023 at Hotel Kutumba, Lalitpur.

Celebrating World Water Day 2023, SOPHEN in association with Ministry of Water Supply, Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management (DWSSM) and in collaboration with KVWSMB, WHO, BMGF, ITN-BUET, FANSA, SNV, Water Aid Nepal and ENPHO organized the seminar on 22 March 2023 at Hotel Shanker, Kathmandu.

Sanitation workers provides an essential public service and strengthened the sanitation systems by management and safe disposal in the environment. However, sanitation workers are often neglected in the society, despite their risk at work in the field cleaning ditches, septic tanks, drains, and collecting waste.

Representatives from ENPHO and Innovative Solution Pvt. Ltd. had an effective meeting with the Mayor Krishna Khand, Deputy Mayor Kabita Ghaire and Chief Administrative Officer Rajan Bhattarai of Waling Municipality on collaborative effort for improving fecal sludge management (FSM) in the Municipality by adopting City-Wide Inclusive Sanitation Approach.
