The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 focuses on “clean water and sanitation for all” by 2030. Coupling with the SDG 6, Nepal has been declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) Nation on 30 September, 2019 and is working for post ODF activities with major focus on Fecal Sludge Management and Treatment. International and National Non-Government Organizations are also providing technical and financial support to the activities of Nepal Government. Fecal Sludge Management is the process of emptying, transporting and treatment of fecal sludge from pit latrines, septic tanks or any other on site sanitation systems.

Under the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Finance (WASH-FIN) Project, the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management (DWSSM) with financial support of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and technical support of ENPHO and Consortium for DEWATS Dissemination Society (CDD Society), India organized a virtual training on ‘Fecal Sludge Management/Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant Design Master Training of Trainers National Water Supply on 8 -21 February, 2021. The 14 days trainings was organized to develop trainers to further roll out FSM/FSTP training package in Nepal in participation of 24 public service engineers (Divisional and Senior Divisional engineers of Province level and federal level).
